Installation Guidelines

1. Depth

Underground warning tape should be laid 200–300 mm (8–12 inches) above the utility, not directly on it. This gives the excavator enough warning depth to stop before reaching the pipe or cable. If the tape is too close to the utility, the excavator may strike both simultaneously.

2. Trench Preparation

  • Ensure the trench bottom is smooth and free of sharp rocks that could puncture the tape
  • Lay the tape flat, without wrinkles or folds
  • Do not stretch the tape — it should lie naturally in the trench
